Following on from the four questions you should ask when looking for a new church, for part two of #findingyourfeet we turn the spotlight back onto you: what questions you should be asking yourself as you enter this exciting new season of life? Because if you don’t answer them, someone, or something, else will do it for you.
This is certainly a starting point rather than an exhaustive list, but these are three questions that if you answer wisely will really help you to manage yourself well in what can be an exciting, yet tumultuous, few weeks and months. Let’s get stuck in…
1. WHO DO I WANT TO BE?
University is a fresh start, away from friends, family and places you may have been around your whole life. With this new opportunity to define yourself, make sure you don’t just get swept along with the crowd but instead intentionally ask yourself, and Jesus, what kind of person you want to be and make active choices to pursue that path. Why not try writing a list of your core values? Deciding who you want to be in advance will empower you to live that way, even when it’s challenging to do so.
2. WHAT DO I WANT TO TRY?
The opportunities open to you during your time at Uni really are unsurpassed by any other life-stage. Perhaps you hated sport at school but could get into something like frisbee? Or you maybe you even want to learn some sweet ninja moves or join the pirate society? Whatever, it’s probably never been easier! Hit the Freshers Fair with an open mind and see what new experiences you can get involved in.
3. WHO AM I HERE FOR?
For yourself, right? Obviously your main reason for heading to uni is to do your course and get a qualification. But do you know what? God so much more in store for you than just your degree! Part of this great adventure is recognising that it’s not just all about you – as a child of God, you are made uniquely in His image and carry something of value which the world needs to see. Don’t hide that away, but ask yourself where you can spend what God has given you for the benefit of those around you.
